The aim of the article is to show that the prison is a place (space) of mutual interpenetration of activities and aims of prisoners, prison workers and chaplains. The
author argues that each of the three groups can use the time spent behind the prison walls for their personal education. He claims that the penitentiary unit is a specific
space, but at the same time it is particularly interesting as in this space human biographies are being mixed.
He shows that prison workers, guards and chaplains are “imprisoned” in a way, but
it may be their important learning experience.
